How to Find Your Impact Account SID and Auth Token

October 5, 2026 ยท 5 min read

Short answer:

In Impact, click your profile icon, then Settings. Under Technical, select API. Click Create Access Token and finish the setup. Then open the token's card and choose API Credentials. The Account SID and Auth Token are both on that page.

Impact's API authenticates with two values. The Account SID identifies your account and starts with IR. The Auth Token is the password that goes with it. Most reporting tools also ask for a third value, your Program ID, which tells them which program to read.

Older guides say the SID and token sit at the top of the API page. That was true for legacy tokens. Impact launched scoped access tokens in 2025 and recommends replacing legacy tokens with them, so the credentials now live with each token you create.

Who can do this

You need an Impact user with the Account Administrator or Implementation Specialist role. If the API page doesn't appear in your Settings menu, ask an admin on your account to create the token or upgrade your role.

Step 1: Create an access token

  1. Sign in at app.impact.com.
  2. Click your profile icon in the top navigation and choose Settings.
  3. In the left column, scroll to Technical and select API.
  4. Click Create Access Token in the upper right.
  5. Name the token after the tool that will use it, for example "OptimizeAffiliate." Add a short description of what it's for.
  6. Choose the latest API version and click Next.
  7. Optionally add a developer contact, then click Next again.
  8. Turn on the API categories the tool needs and pick read or write for each (see Step 2).
  9. Click Create.

Create one token per tool. If you stop using a tool, you can revoke its token without breaking anything else connected to your account.

Step 2: Choose scopes

Give each token only what the tool uses. A reporting tool needs read access. It should not be able to change your contracts, payouts or partner terms.

If the tool needs toTurn on
Read sales and commissionsActions and Reports, read
Read clicksClicks, read
Read your partner rosterMedia partners, read
Publish text ads or bannersAds, write

If a tool later returns permission errors on one kind of data while the rest works, the token is missing that category. Edit the token's scopes rather than creating a broader one.

Step 3: Copy the Account SID and Auth Token

  1. Go back to Settings โ†’ Technical โ†’ API.
  2. Select the card for the token you just created.
  3. Choose API Credentials in the left navigation.
  4. Copy the Account SID and the Auth Token.

Always copy both values from the same token's page. A SID from one token paired with the Auth Token from another is the most common reason a connection fails.

Step 4: Find your Program ID

The Program ID (Impact also calls it the Campaign ID) is a number. Go to Campaigns โ†’ All Campaigns and open your program. The number appears on the campaign detail page and in the page URL. Brands with more than one program on Impact have one Program ID per program.

Connecting Impact to OptimizeAffiliate

In the OptimizeAffiliate Shopify app, open Settings, expand Impact, and enter the Program ID, Account SID and Auth Token. The app validates them and starts the first sync of actions, clicks and partners. Turn on write access for Ads only if you want to publish text ads to Impact from the Creatives page. See the Settings docs for the full setup.
